Shopify apps to fast-track your way to SEO failure

A JSON-LD for SEO customer shared a screenshot of a SEO app with me. Two options caught my eye:

Fake review options

Does "Show random product rating between 4 and 5 stars" and "All products have 5 stars" sound like something you should enable?

Probably not, unless you like fake reviews and spam.

These two options are a fast way to get your Shopify store banned from the Rich Results program or even delisted by Google.

And they are just simple toggles that anyone using this app can turn on without knowing.

Things like this piss me off.

Many stores don't understand SEO, let alone structured data, and so they trust apps to do the right thing. In this case, those stores are going to get punished by Google months later and never know it's because the app developer broke the rules.

I'm not going to name this app but I will say, this is one of the more popular freemium SEO apps.

You get what you pay for rings true yet again.
