How to upgrade your Shopify product descriptions when all you have are commodity products

Today I wanted to share what Nimisha Rikhi Designs is doing with their products. Their products, while unique, aren’t easy to describe without reusing the same word over and over again.

In their own words:

I was having a problem with keyword stuffing because my designs are all based on pearls.

So, I decided to give names to my designs and include a description in the first sentence of product description. Seems to have worked.

Learning one lesson at a time 🙂

With product names like Iris, Charity, Kai, and Vidisha, they’ve done a very good job of setting their products apart from every other pearl necklace.

They’ve also done a great job with the product descriptions. Each comes with a short story, full personality.

This is exactly the right approach to win against the larger retailers. Be different, have a personality, and be remarkable.

One simple improvement you can make is to get your structured data in order.

Google has been working on Rich Snippets so I bet there’s going to be more search enhancements coming out in 2018 for stores with structured data.
