For a couple of months now, I've been highlighting new features in Repeat Customer Insights with a tiny badge. Here's one feature that I just released yesterday:
It's a simple bit of a code but it can draw attention to things that would otherwise be missed.
They work especially well on products. "New product", "New colors", "Longer battery life", etc.
A designer could easily create a similar one for your store and there are plenty of apps and theme options to add them. Tom, a good friend of mine runs one called Flair.
Badges also work well outside of product attributes. You can use them to call-out important resources or shipping deadlines or upsell offers or even silly puns.
All they take is a bit of color, bit of text, and a touch of design.
